More than 1.3 million night storage heaters are still in use in Germany as a heating medium. Most users are reluctant to remove the old stoves. Firstly, because disposing of old night storage heaters is often difficult and expensive, and secondly, because there is uncertainty about which heater is best to use in place of the night storage heater. In this case, the replacement with electric heating can be very worthwhile. Modern electric heaters are much more economical than older storage heaters. Even the somewhat cheaper nightly electricity tariff often does not compensate for this by far.
